Pura Vida Travels - A Guide To Travel In Latin America

At lunchtime we headed to the Casablanca restaurant which is a nice little place right on the river. Although the atmosphere was great the food was awful. My steak still had marks on it from where the jockey was hitting it. Juniett didn't like her food either so it wasn't just me. The most interesting part of lunch was watching the kids going out on the boats to fish. They don't use rods and reels, they use their hands.

After lunch we headed to the Hotel El Vivero to see another one of Juniett's friends who works at the hotel. The hotel has absolutely beautiful woodwork and is located right next to a giant lumber mill. The RAAN & RAAS are famous for producing beautiful hardwoods and the hotel is a prime example of the quality lumber available in the area. I didn't see the rooms but I'm told the rate is around $35/night. The hotel is surrounded by beautiful gardens and tropical forests so it definately seems like a nice place to stay if you're ever in El Rama, Nicaragua.

In Nicaragua there's no shortage of things in the middle of the road that shouldn't be there. If you see a guy on a horse with a red flag it means that you're gonna run into a herd of cattle soon. Most of the time there won't be a flag man to warn you so you have to watch out for ducks, pigs, dogs, or some drunk out for a late night stroll in the middle of the highway.

Flying home you get an appreciation for just how brown and dry Nicaragua is this time of year. (April)
