Pura Vida Travels - A Guide To Travel In Latin America

This voyage began as a disaster but fortunately had a very happy ending. I had to fly to Chicago, then Miami, and my final destination was Medellin. I was supposed to arrive in Medellin at 9 PM on Friday night. Unfortunately for me, American Airlines had other plans for me. When I arrived in Chicago my flight to Miami was listed as cancelled. The plane that was supposed to take me South was stuck in Seattle. I called AA’s hotline I was given 2 options, I could either stay overnight in Chicago or Miami and they would get me to Medellin on Saturday night. Since it was –8 degrees in Chicago I opted for Miami. I arrived in Miami at 7 PM and was told by AA if I wanted my checked luggage I would have to put in a claim and wait 6-8 hours for it. I decided to just leave my luggage there and head to the hotel they provided. I arrived at the hotel around 9:30 PM and proceeded to spend 18 of the longest hours of my life there. The hotel they put me up in, while very nice, was at least 20 miles outside of Miami in the middle of the Everglades and didn’t have internet access. I soon discovered that my entire life revolves around the internet and not having access to it was painful. All of my contact phone numbers were in my Skype address book and you can’t access it without an internet connection. I couldn’t call or even email anyone to let them know what was going on.

I Was Stuck Looking At This For 18 Hours

Once I arrived in Medellin the views got considerably better. ;) On Sunday my friend had a barbeque at his house and invited me to come over. The only thing more beautiful than the weather that day was the women at his party. I was chatting with some people at the party when I noticed that this beautiful woman sitting on the other side of the patio was staring at me and smiling. I went over and introduced myself, we chatted for a while, and we ended up going out together that night. Man I love Medellin! I haven't even been here 24 hours yet and I already have another girlfriend.

In the good old USA I absolutely hate going to the mall. In Medellin, I go there just about every day. The Oveida Mall in El Poblado has to have the single highest concentration of beautiful women anywhere on earth. The second greatest thing about the mall is the food court. This isn't your ordinary food court. They have restaurants with actual chefs preparing some of the best meals I've ever had. You place your order, they hand you a card with a number on it and 10 or 15 minutes later an incredible meal arrives. The best part is that the price is usually around $6 to $8 for a gourmet meal.
The bed and breakfast that I stayed at was great. It's in a residential neighborhood within walking distance of the mall, the metro (long walk), a grocery store, etc. The staff is outstanding and take care of anything you could possibly want or need. The rooms are nice but lack a refrigerator and the upstairs rooms are a little warm during the day. For all you get for $45/night, however, it's hard to complain.
